Work with us
"Working with Garage Gallery has been truly enriching. This locally run gallery is a hub of creativity and collaboration ... I highly recommend other artists and curators to collaborate with this gallery."
- Alice in Hackneyland (artist, 'Fluorescent Banquet'

Got an idea for an exhibition at Garage Gallery? We are always keen to hear from curators and artists who have interesting ideas for using our space for a show. Whether you are 'emerging' artists, or artists with more experience of exhibiting, we'd love to hear from you.
"The opportunity to exhibit as an emerging artist in a professional, not-for-profit setting was truly invaluable." - Octavia Madden (artist, 'Between Forests')

We have hosted a range of shows and events - painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, installations and film, and used the space for workshops, meetings and filming a performance. We aim to have five to six shows per year, running over one or two long weekends, but we can be flexible about this. We like to work with groups of artists (three people minimum) to foster collaboration and create a supportive environment.

Please note that Garage Gallery is quite small - the main hanging space is about 2.5m by 7.5m. However we make the most of this with a very flexible easy-to-use hanging system, and there are also various other areas in the Gallery to display work.

Our criteria are pretty broad, but being a not-for-profit free space, we do have to pick and choose what we can support. Please note that we don't put on shows that are simply about selling arts & crafts and other items, however nice they are!

Please get in touch!

If you want to send us a proposal: please read the attached document (see button below) which sets out what we are looking for, and also take a look at the exhibitions we have hosted so far (Previous Exhibitions tab).

"I wanted to use this opportunity to pilot new ideas, create new works and expand on themes I had come across within my practice." - Joanna Penso (artist, 'Listen-In')

Please email us your proposal at garagegallerye17@gmail.com (see button below): no more than 2 sides of A4 along with a couple of images of works or links to video or audio files if possible.

Once we’ve discussed and indicated that we like your proposal, we will send you our Terms & Conditions document and discuss details like timings. In our experience it’s usually 3-4 months between us agreeing a proposal and the show taking place, but we can be flexible about this.

If you have any queries at this stage, or you aren’t ready to submit a proposal quite yet, do please get in touch by email. Or just send us your initial thoughts - don’t over-think anything, we can always fill in gaps later and it doesn’t have to be perfect!

We look forward to hearing from you.

"It was a revolutionary experience that's moved my practice forward in ways I couldn't have predicted." - Hannah Crosson (artist, 'Love Object')
